Testimonials

"Kate brings both a determination for quality and optimistic humor to her work. She is prepared, serious about outcomes and professional, yet she is fun, light hearted and sees the good in all people and situations."

Sennen Knauer, Assistant Principal, Meadowlark School

"The quality I love most about Kate is her determination to find solutions to problems. She is endlessly looking for new ways to meet the needs of not only our struggling learners but our high achieving students as well.  When the district required specific curriculums, Kate always strove to enrich the instruction by incorporating collaboration, critical thinking, and hands on strategies that brought learning alive for her students."

Susan Altman, Principal, Telluride Elementary

"Kate worked hard to produce a classroom that was founded on respect. Students knew what was expected in all moments, they felt safe to learn and make mistakes, and her communication with staff and families was clear and consistent. She is a team player and was a sought after classroom teacher in the community. Her classroom was a place students looked forward to coming to every morning."

Colleen Mahoney, Principal, Orangewood School

“My son loves working with Kate! She got him right back on track after a year of virtual learning. The first thing I noticed were his writing skills...they are WAY above what they were before tutoring!  This is one of the only activities he jumps in the car for and is excited about!  Lifesaver for our family!”

“In August 2020, my daughter started middle school online, and I was worried that she had forgotten much of what she had learned in fifth grade (especially math), that she had not learned all she should have in fifth grade due to COVID-19 upending the school year, and that she wouldn't be very engaged learning online. Enter Kate!  While my daughter was initially hesitant to go to a "tutor," she quickly realized that Kate made learning fun and engaging. With Kate's help, she not only dusted off and beefed up her math skills, but she's really been engaged and challenged to think in new and more critical ways. She looks forward to working with Kate each week, and she is gaining both skills and confidence."

Brooke M. (mother of 6th grader)

"We have been working with Kate since August of 2020 and our two kids (fifth and sixth grade) have benefited tremendously from the 1:1 learning time and the opportunity to flex their brains beyond what they are learning in school. Our time with Kate is much more than tutoring--we call it enrichment. In their sessions, our kids work through logic puzzles, critical thinking and areas where they may need some additional help in school. Kate has been flexible with ever-changing schedules and my two pre-teens look forward to seeing her each week--which is saying a lot!"

LIndsay W (mother of 5th and 6th grade students)

“Kate has worked with our family since spring of 2021.  My daughter was struggling with middle school math and attention differences, and Kate came strongly recommended to me.  What we have received from Kate is so much more than tutoring. My daughter LOVES to attend her session each week, her math skills have improved due to Kate's thoughtful and individualized approach, and even more importantly, my daughter's sense of self confidence has grown so much, which is a tough thing to accomplish in 8th grade.  My daughter relies on Kate for academic support, but she also really trusts and values her perspective and opinion on school and so much more.  They even text each other!  For me, Kate has really been an amazing and honest sounding board navigating ADHD and the implications of this diagnosis academically, socially, and emotionally.  We have a genuine conversation each week about my daughter, and she feels so supported and so do I.  Kate always goes above and beyond.  She really cares.  We are grateful for the time, humor, attention, and professionalism that Kate has brought to our family since day one.”

Mother of 4th and 8th grader

“Kate has worked with my daughter for a little over a year.  Kate has an incredible way with her and connects like no other teacher has.  She meets my daughter where she is at, has patience, and doesn't rush the process, allowing time for my daughter to process and think.  My daughter absolutely LOVES coming to see Kate and stays focussed and engaged in work for her sessions.  Her confidence and joy for learning have increased exponentially since working with Kate.  We love her!”

Mother of 5th grader

“I connected with Kate when I was looking for support for our then 5th grader during COVID and home learning. He was struggling with the distant learning model and had lost the zest for learning that he once had. I was drawn to her outlook on education, her vast experience as an educator, and her knowledge of the curriculum in our school district (BVSD). After the first few sessions with Kate, I saw the sparkle in his eyes come back. She had reignited the love of learning, curiosity, and motivation that he had lost. His math and writing skills were the initial focus she quickly assessed where he was and where he needed support. She put a plan into place and communicated progress against that plan with every session. He blossomed as a student over the year she worked with him and by the time he started 6th grade he was well prepared and thrived during his transition to middle school.

My daughter also began working with Kate on her math skills over the summer. She is a different learner and child than her brother but it has been another extremely positive experience with Kate. This speaks to the way that Kate connects with each child, meets them where they are, and helps tap into their potential. She is a creative educator who is engaging and makes learning fun. The kids always want to go see Kate. She builds up their confidence and teaches them in an intentional and meaningful way. She has been an advocate for my daughter and has become an important part of her support team working with me and engaging with her classroom teacher and specialist. I feel so lucky to have found Kate and have an immense amount of gratitude for the impact she has had on both my children and our family.”

“Kate is nothing short of amazing. After only a few sessions with my son, she had figured out exactly what he needed and how to get him to focus on the task at hand.  He loves working with her and with  her help and partnership, he has made amazing progress this year. We highly recommend her to anyone that asks.  She is truly an amazing educator.”

Anna (mom to Max, age 7, 2nd grade)

“Kate has been an absolute Godsend! She is such an unbelievably gifted teacher. She has the ability not only to teach and impart a multitude of subjects, but she is incredibly fun and engaging. We primarily got started with Kate as we discovered our youngest daughter was struggling with reading. Not only did we, as parents, not have the skillset to help her, but our very strong-minded daughter refused to “be where she was at” (in her mind the books at her reading level were too babyish). Enter wonderful Kate. She was able to get through to her in a way we just couldn’t and keep it fun and light, while really helping her make meaningful progress.

Soon thereafter we took our older daughter to see Kate because as a  perfectionist she  was struggling emotionally during the pandemic and needed more support. Both of our daughters needed very different things and Kate was able to meet both girls where they were and help them thrive. And our girls absolutely adore her! To this day they still rave about what a fabulous teacher she is!  In their words, “Ms. Kate is the best teacher we ever had!”. Of course, then followed by asking when they can see her next : )

Kate, we cannot THANK YOU enough for all you did for our girls and for our family. You are an absolute gem!!”
