Lighting up learners from within

“Kate brings both a determination for quality and optimistic humor to her work. She is prepared, serious about outcomes and professional, yet she is fun, light hearted and sees the good in all people and situations.”

Sennen Knauer, Assistant Principal, Meadowlark School

It is clear that we are in an uncharted time in education

Parents, students, and teachers alike are feeling the stress of the past few years of the pandemic, and the pressure to get back to “normal” can feel difficult and heavy.  What we know for sure, and what we have learned through this, is students need to connect, interact, feel validated, and find their self drive to facilitate authentic learning.

As a parent of three, I know how hard it is to tell if kids are “keeping up", “on track”, and even "engaged" in their learning. Whether parents choose homeschool, public school, private school, or an online curriculum, individualized learning can provide needed support and structure in this unexpected time.

At Fireflies, we believe learning has multiple components

Of course students need to learn basic content standards in order to be successful in school. However, they also need social and emotional support, tools to help them understand why doing work is important, and a desire to learn and persevere when things are tough. It doesn't have to take a village, but quite often it takes more than just parents to get the best out of students.

"The quality I love most about Kate is her determination to find solutions to problems. She is endlessly looking for new ways to meet the needs of not only our struggling learners but our high achieving students as well.  When the district required specific curriculums, Kate always strove to enrich the instruction by incorporating collaboration, critical thinking, and hands on strategies that brought learning alive for her students."

— Susan Altman, Principal, Telluride Elementary

Currently, Fireflies works with students in First through 8th Grade

Located in an amazing Learning Studio in the heart of downtown Boulder, we start with a parent/guardian meeting to discuss expectations and set a learning plan. Our goal is to meet students where they are, discuss strengths and possible challenges, together set new goals, and then layer on the supports students crave but don’t know how to ask for.
